Batik Air Malaysia Baggage Allowance

Malindo Air has rebranded as of April 28, 2022 as Batik Air Malaysia and operates as a full service Malaysian carrier and serves within the Lion Air Group based in Indonesia. The airline is headquartered in Malaysia.

Positioned as a swiftly expanding airline, Batik Air – Malaysia has established its primary hubs at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, specifically the KLIA Main Terminal and Subang Skypark. Additionally, it operates from the convenient KL downtown city airport in Selangor, Malaysia.

Let’s take a quick look at their fleet, their best seats and their baggage allowance.

Batik Air Fleet:

6 x ATR 72-600 (economy class)
10 x Boeing 737 800 (economy and business class)
16 x Boeing 737 8 (both dual class and single class)
2 x Boeing A330-300 (economy and business class)

Prior to its rebranding as Batik Air, I had the opportunity to travel with Malindo Air from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur and subsequently from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket. I love Phuket, I stay at the Dusit Thani Laguna Pool Villa almost every year. Opting for the business class experience, I secured the coveted 1A seat, and I must say, the journey was nothing short of amazing. Unlike the typical arrangement of blocking three economy seats in the middle for short flights, the business class cabin was a delightful surprise with only 12 seats arranged in 2 and 2 x 3 rows. The layout provided ample width and recline, contributing to a comfortable and enjoyable experience. The service was exceptional, and the food offerings were equally impressive.

Best Seats on Batik Air – Malaysia

For those not opting for business class, here are the recommended seats in economy. These are seats at the front of the cabin that have extra leg room. They are also great because you get served first and you also get to disembark the aircraft first. They are great for travellers who suffer from a bit of travel anxiety and are less claustrophobic than the rest of the economy cabin.

For a family travelling with kids or babies these rows also offer bassinet seats.

Just check which aircraft you are flying and note the following seats. To check which aircraft you are flying refer to their website. It should be under the flight details. If it isn’t then take note of the flight number and head on over to flightaware.com and search it there. You will see historical data on what aircraft is used on this particular flight.

Another way is to view the seat map when you go through your booking. This would be after you have entered your personal details and come to seat selection.

  • Boeing 737-8 (single cabin): Row 1 (Note: 1C and 1D are Bassinet Seats)
  • Boeing 737-8 (dual cabin): Row 4 (Note: 4C and 4D are Bassinet Seats)
  • A330 wide body (dual cabin): Row 7 (Note: 7CGK are Bassinet Seats) and Row 35 for exit row seats.

Baggage Allowance Batik Air

Batik Air offers a notably generous baggage allowance compared to other carriers. Notably, their cabin baggage policy allows for 2 pieces in economy class, which deviates from the common combined 7kg limit seen with most airlines.

Here’s the breakdown of the cabin baggage allowance for Batik Air – Malaysia:

Business Class:
2 pieces of cabin luggage, each weighing up to 10 KGS, along with 1 handbag or laptop bag.

Economy Class:
1 piece of cabin luggage, weighing up to 7 KGS, in addition to 1 handbag or laptop bag.

It’s important to adhere to the specified cabin bag dimensions, which are 56 x 36 x 23. Batik Air enforces strict compliance with these dimensions, and failure to adhere may result in the luggage being classified as checked baggage.

When determining your luggage allowance, it’s crucial to be aware of the type of ticket you’ve purchased, as cheaper tickets often come with more restrictive allowances. Additionally, destination plays a role, as specific routes, such as those to Melbourne, may have varying baggage allowances across different classes. For instance, business class to Melbourne may have a lower allowance compared to economy flexi, but more than super saver.

Here’s a general guide to Batik Air’s checked-in free baggage allowances:

FREE Baggage Allowance:

Business: 40KG
Business Promo: 30 KG
Economy Flexi: 30 KG
Economy Value: 20 KG
Super Saver: 20 KG

It’s advisable to visit Batik Air’s website (previously operated as Malindo Air) for precise details, including minor allowances and the fine print. The site also provides information on pre-purchasing additional baggage at specific rates. Keep in mind that failure to pre-purchase may result in charges at the airport, and these charges can be substantial. For example, exceeding weight limits on a flight from Australia to Malaysia might incur a fee of AUD$20 per kg over the limit.

Furthermore you could have further complications if you have to recheck bags on a connecting flight – especially if they are seperate airlines and seperate tickets that cannot be tagged all the way through to your final destination.

Furthermore, it’s essential to note that even if your business class allowance is 40 kg, individual suitcases cannot exceed 32 kg each, as no carrier typically accepts luggage exceeding this weight limit. For detailed information, you can refer to the official Batik Air website as mentioned above.

Happy travels!
