For travellers seeking an unparalleled experience of luxury and comfort, the Emirates Lounge at Melbourne International Airport in Australia (Tullamarine Airport) stands as a shining beacon. This lounge redefines the pre-flight experience. I love Emirates. In fact it is probably my favourite airline. They certainly have one of the best business class and first class products out there.
I also love stopping over in Dubai. I do it every time. If you are not familiar, here is how to book a stopover in dubai compliments of Emirates.
Emirates Lounge Melbourne Airport Location
The Emirates Lounge in Melbourne is located beyond the security checkpoint in Terminal 2. It can be accessed by taking the escalators, which are conveniently situated near gate 10, one level above the main airport concourse.
Opening Hours
It is currently open between 6:30 PM and 10:00 PM to serve the EK 407 flight from Melbourne to Dubai. It re opens between 12:25 am and 05:45 am to service both the EK405 Melbourne-Singapore-Dubai and the EK 409 flight at 6:15 am Melbourne to Dubai.
My EK409 flight from Melbourne to Dubai departed at 6:15 AM. The EK 409 plane type is an Emirates Airbus A380-800 and is part of the retrofitted project that Emirates has undertaken. It has four distinct classes. First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy. I was able to secure a seat on board using my Amex Points. I am a member of their membership rewards program so transferring amex points to emirates is very easy.
I found that being at the lounge around 4:00 AM was enough time to sit back, relax and enjoy all its offerings in full view of the runway.
Stepping in to the lounge
As you step into the Emirates Lounge, you’re greeted by an atmosphere of refined elegance. Once you have shown your boarding pass you head on out to the right to enter the lounge. To your left is a magazine / newspaper stand which also leads into the second refreshment station, lounge with a television and bathrooms.
The contemporary design, infused with subtle Arabian influences, creates a tranquil environment amidst the bustling airport. A number of seating areas offer comfort and privacy.
My favourite place to sit is directly in front of the runway. You have to get in early though, because they are seats that go quick! Head on past the fountain, towards the windows and grab one of the lounge seats with a foot recliner.
Whether you’re looking to unwind or catch up on work before your flight there is literally a space for everyone. It has never felt overcrowded.
Food and Drinks
One of the highlights of the Emirates Lounge experience is its culinary offerings. From an extensive selection of beverages, including fine wines and premium spirits, every palate is catered to. The food stations allow guests to savour freshly prepared meals.
I only have one tiny gripe. Their coffee. I wish they would invest in a Barista like Qantas and Virgin do. I remember using the Turkish Airlines Istanbul lounge and was served up one of the best coffees I have ever had. Even the Air New Zealand Koru Lounge in Auckland offers baristas. It really adds to the memorable experience.
Emirates offer a coffee machine which grinds coffee beans and heats up milk in what is a pretty sub-par coffee. This unfortunately is across all the lounges including Dubai. I remain hopeful that they will elevate the coffee experience for their passengers to reflect the 5 star airline that they are.
Amenities
The Emirates Lounge goes above and beyond in providing amenities. For those in need of relaxation, the lounge features quiet zones and shower facilities. Using these facilities ensures you feel refreshed before your journey. There is also a prayer room available for those who wish to use it.
Guests of the Emirates Lounge enjoy exclusive privileges, including priority boarding and seamless access to the boarding gate. The lounge also offers business services for those looking to stay productive, with high-speed Wi-Fi and business centre facilities available. These sit right next to a waterfall which really adds that relaxing feel.
Summing Up
The Emirates Lounge at Melbourne International Airport offers a glimpse into a world of luxury and sophistication. From its elegant ambiance to its culinary delights, luxurious amenities, personalized service, and exclusive privileges, every aspect is meticulously crafted to provide a memorable and indulgent experience. Whether you’re traveling for business or leisure, a visit to the Emirates Lounge is sure to elevate your journey to new heights of comfort and luxury. Just remember, that as tempting as it may be to post your experience on social media, don’t post your boarding pass as there are risks in doing so.
Safe travels and enjoy the journey!
