Lufthansa Allegris: The Most Beautifully Confusing Cabin Yet

Updated October 2025:

Every time an airline releases a new product, I am always on the lookout to see at least one unique feature; or something I have not seen on another airplane before. For example, Qatar Airways’ New Generation QSuites introduced the companion suite, allowing two people to sit together in window suites that face each other, instead of being limited to middle seats in the business class cabin. This clever design enables better interaction while maintaining privacy. On board Japan Airlines’ (JAL) new A350, the introduction of speakers built into the headrest, is a feature I have never before seen on any aircraft. Say goodbye to bulky headphones, especially when you’re lying down.

And now, with Lufthansa’s Allegris, there’s another innovative touch that gets my thumbs up: the cooling and heating function built directly into the seat. (I will show you below.)

This is what true innovation in aviation looks like; addressing passenger comfort in entirely new ways. That’s why i have listed it as one of the top coolest airline features.

But while Allegris nails some features beautifully, not everything hits the mark. Take the new First Class Suite Plus. A stunning double suite that promises luxury and privacy in the sky… until you realise it only has one TV and one dining table for two passengers. If you’re flying as a couple, that’s a recipe for some awkward in flight negotiation!

What is Lufthansa Allegris?

Lufthansa is giving its entire long haul experience a serious glow up with the introduction of Lufthansa Allegris; a complete redesign across all cabins: Economy, Premium Economy, Business, and First Class. It’s not just a facelift; it seems like a whole new philosophy built around passenger comfort, choice, and style.

More than 80 brand new aircraft including the Boeing 787-9, Airbus A350, and Boeing 777-9, will debut with the new Allegris cabins. Even the legendary Boeing 747-8, affectionately known as the Queen of the Skies, is getting the Allegris treatment. Now that’s what I call aging gracefully.

The Allegris First Class experience will premiere on Lufthansa’s shiny new Airbus A350s, setting the tone for what’s to come. It’s part of the airline’s 2.5 billion euro investment, the biggest product and service overhaul in Lufthansa’s history, rolling out through 2025. In simple terms, Lufthansa isn’t just tweaking a few seats; they’re completely redefining how their passengers eat, sleep, and relax at 35,000 feet.

Why you should know the aircraft you’ll be flying.

Understanding the aircraft for your upcoming journey is key to making the most of your travel investment, especially when flying in premium cabins like business or first class. The type of aircraft can greatly influence your comfort, amenities, and overall experience. I learned this the hard way during a 2007 trip to Europe with Emirates. I splurged $14,500 on a first-class ticket, expecting the luxurious flat bed seats and modern amenities showcased on their website. To my dismay, I ended up on an older Airbus A340-500 with outdated recliner seats, far from what I had envisioned.

Meanwhile, my business partner, who had cleverly transferred Amex points to Emirates to book a reward ticket, enjoyed the latest first-class suite; cutting-edge and unmatched at the time. That trip taught me an invaluable lesson: always check the aircraft before booking. When you’re flying long-haul, like the 21-hour journey from Australia to Europe, and investing a significant sum in tickets, knowing what to expect isn’t just helpful, it’s essential.

Which Lufthansa Aircrafts will feature the Allegris?

Just as a side note, before flying to some of these destinations, it’s important to check the latest visa waiver requirements for both the UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) and the European ETIAS. Travelers, including those holding Australian and USA passports, are now required to apply online for entry approval to the UK and European countries.

How do I know if I will be flying the new Allegris Cabin?

Easy. Lufthansa lets you know when you search for your flight. It has an extremely user friendly booking process which is totally transparent. They walk you through it with clear and concise information including photos.

Here’s a screenshot of what that looks like. In addition to this you get to select your seat when going through the booking process. Take note of the seat map (below).

When reviewing the seat map, it’s essential to select your seat thoughtfully, as Business Class offers five distinct options. Below is the seat map of the current configuration for the Airbus A350-900, and a close up of the Allegris business class cabin showcasing these seating choices.

In the early stages of the launch, only a limited number of aircraft will feature the new travel classes. During this period, Business Class passengers can choose their preferred seat from five options at no additional cost, depending on availability. These options include the Extra Space Seat, Extra Long Bed, Privacy Seat, and Classic Seat. Lastly, the Business Class Suite will be exclusively available to HON Circle Members and Senators during this introductory phase.

Once the introductory period concludes, the following seat reservation fees will apply:

Ouch!🥴

Lufthansa Allegris First Class

One of the highlights of Lufthansa’s new Allegris product is the “Suite Plus”. A double First Class cabin that looks stunning on paper. It’s designed as a private retreat in the sky, enclosed by floor-to-ceiling walls and a fully closable door for complete privacy. Inside, two spacious seats can convert into a double bed, with a large central table for dining or working. On the surface, it’s the kind of feature that makes you say, finally, true luxury has landed.

But here’s where it gets interesting, and a little questionable. The suite is built for two passengers… yet there’s only one TV screen and one dining table. So if you’re traveling as a pair, you’ll have to take turns eating or watching your favourite show. I don’t know about you, but if I’m booking a double suite in First Class, I’d expect two of everything. What were they thinking?

That said, there’s no denying the individual suite is beautifully designed. Each seat is nearly a meter wide and features both heating and cooling options, allowing you to find your perfect temperature; a first in commercial aviation. You can also connect your own devices to the entertainment system and store your belongings in the personal wardrobe. Every detail has been thoughtfully crafted for maximum comfort and privacy, even if the “couples suite” might need a rethink.

Lufthansa Allegris Business Class

Lufthansa’s new Business Class takes privacy and comfort up a notch with fully enclosed suites. Yes, doors and all. The front row suites are the stars here, offering a 27-inch screen, plenty of storage space, a wardrobe for your jacket, and even a personal minibar. For those traveling together, the divider can open to create a shared space; ideal for colleagues who actually get along or couples who don’t mind being cozy at 35,000 feet.

Where it gets interesting, though, is the sheer number of choices. Lufthansa has introduced six different seating options. Everything from an extra-long bed stretching 2.2 meters (almost the same as Oman Air’s impressive 89-inch one) to seats with more desk space, a baby bassinet, or a window view. There’s even a double seat where the center console retracts, creating a shared reclining area.

But here’s my honest take. I’m not entirely convinced this was the smartest move. Six seat types in one cabin? And there could be an additional charge depending on which one you choose! That’s a lot of variation for a supposedly uniform Business Class. It feels a bit like musical chairs in the sky; depending on where you end up sitting, your experience could be entirely different.

Sometimes, less really is more; give people too many choices, and they may not choose at all. It will be interesting to see whether variety turns out to be a selling point or just a mid air mismatch.

The Five Business Class Seating Options

  1. Suites in the First Row: Double suite in the middle and single suites by the window.
  2. Extra-Space Seat: Spacious single seat with an extended work surface.
  3. Window Seat: Offers a high degree of privacy.
  4. Seat with Extra-Long Bed: An extended bed length of 2.20 meters for extra comfort.
  5. Classic Business Class Seat: All seats are directly accessible from the aisle.

Lufthansa Allegris Premium Economy

Lufthansa’s refreshed Premium Economy Class (first rolled out in 2022) brings a noticeable step up in comfort. The new Allegris Premium Economy seat offers more legroom, a fold out leg rest, and a deeper recline than the older version. The best part? The entire seat is built into a hard shell, which means when you recline, you’re not invading the personal space of the poor soul behind you. Japan Airlines already does this beautifully on its A350s, and it’s great to see Lufthansa catching on.

Interestingly, Qantas went the opposite way for its upcoming Project Sunrise A350s, sticking with the traditional recline model. Personally, I think Lufthansa made the smarter choice here; the hard shell keeps everyone happy, especially on long-haul flights when comfort (and courtesy) really matter.

The table and screen stay fixed in place too, so there’s no wobbling laptop or sliding meal tray when the person in front leans back. Plus, each passenger receives a neat little amenity kit made from sustainable materials, which adds a thoughtful, eco-friendly touch. It’s a solid middle ground between comfort and conscienc; exactly what a good Premium Economy should be.

Lufthansa Allegris Economy

Lufthansa’s new Allegris Economy Class proves that comfort doesn’t have to disappear in the back of the plane. Seat pitch has been boosted to a decent 79 cm, while the first few rows get an even roomier 86 cm. A nice perk for those who like to stretch out or work on a laptop.

Each seat now comes with tablet holders and USB ports, making it much easier to stay entertained or keep devices charged throughout long flights. But my favourite addition? You can now book the seat next to you to keep it empty; essentially buying yourself a little bubble of peace. It’s a simple but brilliant idea. On a packed long haul flight, that empty middle seat might just be the best upgrade you didn’t know you needed.

Lufthansa Allegris Cooling & Heating of Seats

Lufthansa’s Allegris cabins introduce a game-changing feature: individually adjustable heating and cooling for seats in both Business and First Class. This innovation allows passengers to personalise their seating temperature for optimal comfort throughout the flight. Whether you prefer a cozy warmth or a cooler seat, this feature ensures a tailored experience that caters to individual preferences, enhancing relaxation and sleep quality during your journey. I absolutely love this feature.

Seat spacing in the different classes:

Lufthansa Allegris Economy Class: 79 cm (86 cm in the first rows)

Lufthansa Allegris Premium Economy Class: 99 cm (2.5 cm more than in the current version)

Lufthansa Allegris Business Class: The beds are up to 2.20 meters long.

Lufthansa Allegris First Class: With up to 3.7 square meters, the First Class Suites are among the largest in the world.

Final Words

After years of fine-tuning my travel game (and plenty of trial and error at 35,000 feet), I’ve mastered the art of flying Business and First Class for free (or close to it) by using miles wisely. There’s nothing quite like sinking into a lie-flat seat, sipping champagne, and knowing you didn’t pay full fare for it.

If you’re redeeming points, always run them through a miles redemption calculator to make sure you’re getting the best value. It’s amazing how many people cash in points without realising they could’ve doubled their comfort for the same amount.

Now, let’s talk about Lufthansa Allegris. There’s a lot to love; the heating and cooling seats are a genuine game changer, and the overall investment Lufthansa has made in redesigning its cabins deserves applause. But let’s be honest: not everything lands perfectly. I’m still scratching my head over the mix of six different Business Class seat types in one cabin. Consistency is key, and this new “pick your own adventure” layout feels more like cabin roulette. Depending on where you’re seated, your experience could range from “incredible” to “I drew the short straw.”

And then there’s First Class. Beautiful, private, luxurious… but that double suite design? Only one TV and one dining table for two passengers. It’s hard not to think, what were they possibly thinking? For a product positioned at the very top of luxury travel, that’s a surprising oversight.

That said, Lufthansa has clearly put a lot of effort (and money) into the Allegris revamp. Whether all that investment translates into a truly seamless experience remains to be seen.
